Lumsden Gymnasium is the home venue for men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball while also serving as a practice facility for several of Daemen’s other intercollegiate NCAA Division II teams, including men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s track and field and cheerleading. It is located on campus.

The Gymnasium itself, named for Charles L Lumsden, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the time it was built, and his wife Gloria B. Lumsden, also provides a facility for several of the athletic department’s functions throughtout the academic year including the Student-Athlete Welcome Back Night and “Blue Madness” – a pep rally style kickoff event to the college basketball season.

In the Fall of 2012, Lumsden Gymnasium underwent a facelift as it received a fresh design concept that included royal blue, black and gray striping around the perimeter of the gym. Also, larger-than-life decals highlighting the College’s new athletic logos were placed at strategic locations inside the gym. Finally, new championship banners were added to the east end of the gym highlighting the College’s championship-winning teams from Daemen’s NAIA-affiliated era. Also, in 2019 the Men’s first ever NCAA Division II Championship banner was raised.

In September of 2015, Daemen College officially opened the Academic and Wellness Center, located at 4433 Main Street across the street from the Daemen Campus. The building, formerly the Northeast YMCA, was purchased by the College in 2013 and recently went through a $5.6 million refurbishment project to house state-of-the-art learning facilities for health-related academic programs, as well as recreational space for the college community.

Daemen Athletics, which overseas campus recreation has a large stake in the building and operating the gymnasium and fitness center located on site. The gymnasium serves primarily as a campus recreation hub, open to the college community for various activities throughout the day, as well as Daemen’s expanding intramural program. The gymnasium also provides a satellite practice location for Daemen’s intercollegiate athletic programs when the main competition venue (Lumsden Gymnasium) is otherwise unavailable.

The modern fitness center, a 2,400 square-foot space, features nearly $200,000 in the latest equipment ranging from treadmills and elliptical machines to free weights and squat racks. The cardiovascular equipment is all wired for internet and cable television connections, and also features plugins for mobile devices. Open to the college community, the fitness center is designed for users with a range of athletic abilities as well as for strength and conditioning purposes for Daemen’s student-athletes.

All current Daemen College students hold the opportunity to use the facility as long as they present their Daemen College ID card to the front desk. Also, all Daemen College employees and Daemen College community members who have purchased a membership and present their membership card to the front desk are allowed the use of the fitness center and gym. The AWC is not open to the public. If you would like to bring a guest for a day we also have a day pass option.
